Landscape Matters (with Wessex Archaeology and Countryscape)
Objectives: Landscape typology and map for the East of England Region
Client: Natural England and Landscape East
Date: January 2010
The increasing availability of county Historic Landscape Characterisation (HLC) has enabled the all-important historical dimension of landscape to be incorporated into the landscape framework. This approach was developed in Shropshire and applied recently (2009) in the East of England Region as part of the Regional Spatial Strategy funded by Natural England and Local Authority partners.
The aim was to produce a final integrated Regional Landscape Typology, including a review of the existing LDU framework based on the Historic Landscape Character (HLC) mapping, regional biodiversity data and rural settlement mapping. The new typology and mapping generated a set of 31 landscape character types (LCTs).
